The role of sodium hexametaphosphate in wastewater treatment
1.Chelate metal ions
Function: It combines with heavy metal ions such as Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, and Fe³⁺ in wastewater to form soluble complexes, preventing these ions from precipitating (such as calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate).
Application scenarios:
Soften hard water to prevent scaling in pipes and equipment.
Treat wastewater containing heavy metals (such as in the electroplating and metallurgical industries).
2. Disperse suspended particles
Function: Adsorb on the surface of particles, prevent particle aggregation through electrostatic repulsion, maintain a suspended state, and facilitate subsequent sedimentation or filtration.
Application scenarios:
Sludge conditioning to enhance sedimentation efficiency.
Prevent turbidity from rising and improve the quality of the effluent.
3. Corrosion inhibition effect
Function: Form a protective film on the metal surface to reduce the corrosion of pipes, pumps and valves by sewage.
Application scenarios: Industrial circulating water systems, boiler water treatment.
4. Synergistic with other water treatment agents
It is often compounded with polyacrylamide (PAM), polyaluminium chloride (PAC), etc., to enhance the flocculation effect or reduce the dosage of chemicals.
